CBS spotlights conservation partnership between Medtronic, Smithsonian researchers

CBS recently featured a conservation partnership between researchers at Medtronic and the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute.

Scientists are using a Medtronic device that monitors heart rhythms to advance species-conservation programs. The technology has been used to study over a dozen species globally, including giant anteaters and clouded leopards.

By continuously tracking animals’ heartbeats as they move through their daily lives, researchers can better understand their physiology. These learnings can then inform conservation objectives like increasing breeding success rates.
