“After more than 20 years of availability, robotic-assisted surgery only accounts for about 3% of all surgeries performed globally today — despite its potential for fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery,” said James Johnson, managing director, MedTech Breakthrough. “The Hugo™ RAS system from Medtronic is a solution to historic cost and utilization barriers, with key design principles that offer surgeons and hospitals flexibility, redefining what is possible in RAS for practitioners and patients alike.’”

The Hugo™ RAS system is a modular, multi-quadrant platform designed for a broad range of soft-tissue procedures. It combines wristed instruments, 3D visualization, and Touch Surgery™ Enterprise, a cloud-based surgical video capture and management solution, with dedicated support teams specializing in robotics program optimization, service, and training.

The Hugo™ RAS system made its clinical debut in June 2021, in Chile. It has since received CE Mark approval and Health Canada license for urologic and gynecologic procedures and been used in hospitals across three regions globally.
