BRAMPTON, July 20, 2022 – Medtronic Canada today announced that Neil Fraser has decided to retire as President of Medtronic Canada ULC and Regional Vice-President, Medtronic plc, effective July 31, 2022.
Fraser’s distinguished career at Medtronic spans 38 years, and he has served as president and regional vice-president since 2004. During that time, Medtronic has become the largest employer in the medical technology sector in Canada and has been first-to-market with countless innovations, including the first hybrid closed loop insulin pump system, the first insertable cardiac monitor (developed in London, Ontario), the first leadless pacemaker, the first cryoablation system for atrial fibrillation (developed in Montreal, Quebec), and the first neuromodulation system that senses brain waves, among many others.
“It has been a privilege to be part of launching so many incredible innovations that have allowed me to contribute to Medtronic’s Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life for millions of Canadians,” says Fraser. “The highlight of my career has been meeting the patients who are impacted by our technologies and the healthcare professionals who support those patients. It’s also been an incredible honour to help develop the next generation of leaders at Medtronic, and I am confident in their ability to continue helping Medtronic be a trusted partner to the Canadian healthcare system.”
Neil is passionate about diversity, inclusion, engagement, and developing emerging leaders. He has coached a robust team of business and functional leaders who, together, have helped Medtronic be a leader in healthcare technology and a trusted partner to the healthcare system, as well as an award-winning employer of choice in healthcare, for mental wellness, for diversity, and for environmental sustainability.
Neil’s successor will be announced in the coming months. Until then, Shawn Monaghan, currently VP Business Transformation & Strategy for the Americas region at Medtronic will serve as interim leader. Shawn has 30 years of experience with the organization and has worked extensively with the Canadian Leadership Team throughout his tenure.
